Former Jammu And Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was recently released from prolonged detention. Post his release, the National Conference Leader was quick to find himself under the spotlight. With Article 370 revoked, Jammu And Kashmir is now officially a Union Territory (UT). And Omar Abdullah has said that he won’t contest elections until J&K remains a UT.

The former J&K CM said that he fails to understand the need to downgrade the state into a UT and unnecessarily punish the people of the state. Omar Abdullah won’t contest elections until J&K remains a union territory and wants the government to revoke the UT status. The NC leader also said that he accepted the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A and that it wasn’t a surprise to him. However, the former J&K CM said that he found it unacceptable and extremely downgrading to split Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
