DATE OF DIWALI, 2020

Diwali is falling this year on Saturday, November 14, 2020. It's going to be a bit late this year because of "Adhikmaas" that has prolonged our wait for Diwali.

DIWALI 2020 ACCORDING TO HINDU CALENDAR

According to the Hindu Panchaang calendar, Diwali is celebrated every year on the Amavasya of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Kartik. Diwali is celebrated every year to mark the homecoming of Lord Rama to Ayodhya, after 14 difficult years of exile in the forest.

Diwali is a five-day-long festival, starting from Dhanteras, and going on till Bhaiya Dooj. Dhanteras, Diwali, Narak Chaturthi, Govardhan Pooja, and Bhaiya Dooj together constitute this beautiful five-day long festival.

DIWALI 2020 POOJA MUHURAT

Diwali this year is falling on November 14. It is believed that on Amavasya night of Kartik month (i.e., on Diwali), Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth, prosperity and well-being) comes to the Earth. That is why Goddess Lakshmi is religiously worshipped on Diwali.

The "shubh muhurat" (i.e., the most auspicious time to worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha) is called "Pradosh Kaal", which has a special significance. It is believed that those who pray wholeheartedly to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh (the remover of obstacles) in Pradosh Kaal, and work hard with pure intentions, surely get all the success and happiness they want in their respective lives.

This year, the Pradosh Kaal (i.e., the most auspicious time to worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha) will be on November 14th, between 5:24 pm in the evening to 8:06 pm at night.

Goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped in "Nishita Kaal", which is going to fall this year on November 14th, between 11:59 pm to 12:32 am of 15th November.

This year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Diwali is going to be a bit different. However, we will not let the pandemic dilute the essence of Diwali.

Let's celebrate this Diwali virtually, by calling up and wishing each other and also by conducting online Diwali meetings on Google Meet, Skype, Zoom, JioMeet, etc.

DIWALI 2020 RULES

This Diwali, please lay special emphasis on your safety- not only from crackers but also from the COVID-19 pandemic. We exhort you to stay home and not to travel long distances to meet your family and friends. Moreover, please do not gather and congregate in large numbers to celebrate Diwali, as it may lead to further spread of the virus.

Our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi also cited, "Jab tak dawaai nahi, tab tak dhilaai nahi", meaning that one should not take the COVID-19 pandemic lightly until and unless a successful vaccine is out.

Here's to every important thing you needed to know about Diwali 2020. We, the Readerscook India family, with all our awesome readers a happy, joyful, prosperous, and safe Diwali 2020.
