The hero of India's unprecedented victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, Kapil Dev, recently suffered from a heart attack. Kapil Dev was admitted to Fortis-Escorts Heart Institute Hospital (South Delhi) at 1 a.m. on October 23 (Friday) as he was experiencing excruciating pain in his chest.
Kapil Dev then went through emergency coronary angioplasty (a process that leads to the resumption of blood flow to the heart). The angioplasty was performed by a team of doctors, led by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of Cardiology Department of the hospital.

The great cricketer is presently in the I.C.U., under the supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur. According to the doctors, his health is stable now, and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days.
Kapil Dev, too, made an official statement:
"Hi everyone. I'm in good spirits and doing well. On the way to a speedy recovery. Can't wait to return to my golf game. You guys are my family. Thank you," Kapil wrote in reply to the wishes of his former Indian teammates.
